lamarcus alrdidge out indefinitely

Lamarcus Aldridge was diagnosed with a minor heart arrhythmia and is set to miss an unknown amount of time. Aldridge had a similar occurrence of the arrhythmia  and was forced to miss time during prior seasons. Gregg Popovich has to deal with the elephant in the room which is Aldridge’s health going forward.

Lamarcus Aldrige was brought into San Antonio to be the man alongside Kawhi Leonard. Tim Duncan was supposed to be rest assured that Aldridge would take his place as he rode off into the sunset. Kawhi Leonard is an MVP candidate but Lamarcus is a co-MVP for the Spurs organization.

Lamarcus is the teams second leading rebounder at 7.5 a game and Spurs 2nd leading scorer at 17 points per game. San Antonio Spurs cannot expect to make a long playoff run without Aldridge consistently in the lineup. Kawhi Leonard is spectacular but he  needs help that Pau Gasol cannot provide.

Why Lamarcus Aldridge Injury Can Derail the Spurs Playoff

Spurs have a key issue that Aldridge solves which is youth. Tony Parker, Pau Gasol and Manu Ginobli are key cogs for San Antonio but they are old. Hence, Aldridge in the line up created an equal balance between veterans and youth. Popovich now has to find a way to balance the overwhelming veteran presence with the underwhelming youth.

Lamarcus Aldridge allows for proper spacing on the court. Aldridge has a mean mid range jumper which does not allow teams to pack in the paint. Pau Gasol and Kawhi Leonard have a lot more room to operate on the court when Lamarcus is on the floor.

Spacing is key to how the Spurs attack teams. Inserting a replacement like David Lee or Dedmon only shrinks the floor on the Spurs shooters. San Antonio plays a team that has a great strategy in the second round  and it could hurt the Spurs and cause them to play in a series longer than need be.

Spurs have not given a timetable on Lamarcus Aldridge’s return. Hopefully, Aldridge can come back in a consistent capacity. Furthermore, If Aldridge has to come back to the team in and out of the lineup it will spell trouble for the Spurs.
